Head of Design

Position duties

Design, improve, and implement new products in collaboration with Product, Growth, Engineering, and Customer Success teams: Translate concepts into tangible visual and interactive representations that guide the development of new products or new features and enhancements; Create wireframes, prototypes, and design mockups to visualize new products, features or enhancements; Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering teams to ensure that design concepts are technically feasible; Partner with Product Managers to scope, plan and prioritize design work: Work closely with product managers to align design concepts with overall product strategies, contributing insights that enhance the market appeal and user experience of the final product; Prioritize design efforts based on user needs, business goals, and project dependencies; Adjust design plans as necessary in response to changing project priorities or external factors; Work with leadership team to set product and brand roadmap: Collaborate with leadership to define a comprehensive product and brand strategy that aligns with the company's long-term vision; Present and communicate design concepts and rationale to leadership team using visual aids such as sketches, renderings, and presentations, showcasing the strategic value of design initiatives; Advocate for the role of design in achieving business objectives, emphasizing the importance of user experience and brand identity; Run qualitative and quantitative research with users on needfinding and testing product concepts; Use data-driven insights to inform design decisions, ensuring that user needs are at the forefront of design solutions; Conduct user research, including surveys and usability tests, to gather insights that inform design decisions and drive improvements based on user feedback; Modify and iterate on design concepts based on user testing outcomes, ensuring that the final product meets or exceeds user expectations; Determine requirements for product designs, including identifying and analyzing the needs and specifications for the product: Create detailed design specifications that outline user flows, interactions, and visual elements; Gather detailed requirements for products and features; Conduct competitive analysis to identify gaps in the market and emerging design trends; Develop and maintain human-centered design practices and roadmap for the MileIQ design team: Establish and evolve a design methodology that promotes user-centered design principles and best practices; Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies in the design workflow; Continuously monitor industry trends, ensuring the team remains at the forefront of design innovation; Lead all creative efforts across mobile and web product design, brand strategy, marketing collateral and communications, email and web design: Oversee the design of mobile and web interfaces, ensuring a consistent and user-friendly experience; Develop and maintain the brand strategy, ensuring visual coherence across all touchpoints; Collaborate with marketing teams to design compelling visuals for digital and print campaigns; Review all design work by design team: Provide feedback and constructive critique on design concepts and deliverables produced by the design team; Ensure that designs meet design standards, user needs, and brand guidelines; Evaluate, hire and manage creative agency and contract partners: Assess the need for external design resources and determine when to engage external creative agencies or partners; Define clear project briefs and expectations for external partners, ensuring alignment with company goals

Requirements

Master’s Degree in Product Design, Human Factors Engineering, Interaction Design or a closely related field, plus 1 year of experience required in the following:

$188,000 per year

Telecommute reporting permitted; In-person attendance at 650 California Street, SF office required 1-3 days per quarter.
