Understanding basic MileIQ terminology is pivotal to improving your use of the mighty mileage tracking application. This primer will walk you through the essential terms in easy-to-understand language. If these seem too easy for you, let us know in the comments what else you'd like to learn about MileIQ.
Automatic tracking
One of the most attractive features of MileIQ is that there is no on/off switch or buttons to press. Once installed, MileIQ works in the background. The app is smart; it recognizes when you're driving and knows when to start and stop tracking your mileage. Your miles are automatically logged and recorded, creating a complete record of all your mileage for taxes or reimbursements.
Business Drives
Your business drives are the rides you take in your vehicle for business purposes. Business drives include trips to meet clients, pick up supplies and other business-related travel. When using MileIQ, swiping right classifies the drive as business. Swiping left, as personal. Importantly, based on the latest tax laws, you cannot deduct your commute. We've put together a list of what the IRS considers business drives.
Classify
Classification allows you to categorize which drives are business and which are personal.‚ÄØTo classify a drive, swipe to the right for a business drive, swipe to the left for personal.
Dashboard
The MileIQ dashboard is great for working on your laptop, desktop or tablet. From the dashboard, you can see all your miles, edit drive details and create expense reports. You can also use advanced features like bulk classify and adding locations.
